Two circular tableware sets made with recycled ceramic waste

Ceramics are one of the most durable materials in existence. As long as they do not break, they can last for thousands of years. At the same time, their production is anything but sustainable. Firing releases a large amount of CO₂, while some raw materials and glazes are harmful to people and the environment or are becoming depleted.

Together with Lab AIR from Rotterdam, Princessehof explores this paradox in Sustainable Ceramics #2: Investigating a Footprint. This is the second exhibition in a three-part series on sustainable ceramics. Lotte Douwes, founder of Meaningful Matter, was invited to take part.

The exhibition runs from 22 November 2025 until 25 October 2026. For the exhibition we created two tableware collections and mapped the process from ground ceramic waste to two new sets in different shades.
