Flora Aeterna
A twelve-piece tableware collection that captures the landscape in porcelain and brings craftsmanship, technology and circular material development together.
“By kneading and shaping clay and literally leaving an imprint, flowers are perpetuated in a poetic way.”
An imprint of the natural landscape
Flora Aeterna refers to our connection with the natural landscape that surrounds us: fertile soil such as sand, limestone, loam and clay on which nature can grow and flourish.
Nature takes a different, breathtaking shape every season, evoking scents, colours and tangible memories: plumes of grass sliding through your fingers or the seeds of a dandelion blown into the sky.
Lotte Douwes translated these impressions into tableware. Flowers and plants leave their traces in the clay, preserving something temporary in a lasting porcelain object.
Craftsmanship, technology and circular material
Flora Aeterna is a twelve-piece tableware collection in which craftsmanship, technology and sustainability come together. Each piece is made from locally sourced discarded ceramic shards and developed to be cherished and to last a lifetime.
The collection reflects Meaningful Matter’s mission to make ceramic production circular and inclusive. Together with social and local partners, valuable materials are sorted and rescued from landfill before being developed into new clay recipes.
Keeping material development and production local reduces unnecessary transport and gives ceramic waste a valuable new destination.
